New York City – Apple Store, West 14th Street.
I arrived yesterday in New York City where I will stay for a week. My first visit of this trip in New York NYC was this morning at the Apple Store on 14th Street. I like that store because it is less crowed then the one on 5th Ave.
The exchange was easy and simple and certainly a better way than by mail. After reading Paul Stamatiou’s article, I decided to wait for my next trip to the City to exchange it directly at the store. If Apple is not totally “green” I try to be.
When that was done I ask the “Genius” if they could take my MacBook Air and upgrade the HD. I thought that I could improve its speed and storage space by putting the 128GB solid-state drive that they put in the latest MacBook Air.
The Genius’s answer was quick: “We don’t do that!”. Thinking he understood that I was asking to do the upgrade for free, Daring to insist: I ask why they do not do it? Unfortunately, he gave me the same answer: “Because, we don’t do such a thing”.
That is not the answer I was expecting.
I think his answer could be more complete. What is the reason behind that negative answer?
Is it because technically it’s impossible to upgrade the 80GB HD of my "old" MacBook Air (bought 8 month ago), or is it a marketing decision to oblige the customer to purchase the latest model?
Have you try to upgrade you MacBook Air to a SSD?
