In November’07, I got my first iPhone.
Last September I bought the black iPhone 3G (16GB) for two reasons:
- More memory for my music and pictures.
- A faster Internet connection.
Pandora.
Cost: Free
Pandora is an internet personalized radio. You can stream music on your iPhone and create a custom radio “station” based on your favorite music. The selections are not only based on algorithms but also on human recommendations. The quality of the sound is really good even if it still sounds like an internet radio.
Liveradio.
Cost: Free.
Liveradio provides Edge-3G and wifi access to thousands of radio from all over the word including a large selection of podcast.
It is possible to search by keywords and manage bookmarks. I use this App everyday on my motorcycle when I go to work. I usually listen to the news on the radio. For podcasts, I prefer to download them on iTunes directly.
Starmap.
Cost: $11.99.
The iPhone planetarium: This application is great and simple to use. It maps the present and future sky with automatic localization. It gives you the name and the position of planets, constellations and stars with one easy click.
Searches are really fast, there is a lot of controls with your fingertips. You can flip the menu on the bottom to choose between the different functions. You can also foresee the next meteor shower.
Starmap is meant to be used at night. Night vision can be turn on to reduce the luminosity of the device. I find this really helpful and it is fun to use.
Facebook.
Cost: Free.
This App is essential for Facebook user. It is nicely designed and easy to use. It lets you update your profile and see the profile of your friends.
You can upload pictures from your iPhone library, which makes it easier and faster than doing it by email. It allows you to write comments, titles and tag a picture before uploading it.
AroundMe.
Cost: Free.
This app is for the road warrior. If you are in a different city or country every day then you have a real use. Around Me simply lists all the critical services around you: Apple Stores, Banks, Restaurant, Gas station, Bars, Movie theaters and so on.
Twitterrific or Twitterlator.
Cost: Free.
Twitterrific or Twitterlator are apps that let you read and publish ‘tweet’/post to your twitter account.
These interfaces are clean and concise. You can tweet and upload pictures directly from the iPhone library and follow your friends.
AIM or IM+.
Cost: Free (AIM and IM+ Lite).
AIM is a different instant messaging app than iChat on your mac. You have to set up the App with a login and PW. After you are logged in, you can access to your complete AIM (iChat) Buddy List, including groups. As on iChat, you can view a user’s profile, send messages and manage them.
I also use IM+ for my MSN account. It is simple and friendly to use. This App supports AIM/iChat, MSN/Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo!, ICQ, Jabber Google Talk and MySpaceIM.
AirMe.
Cost: Free.
AirMe is a camera application with the ability to upload photos to either the AirMe’s site or to Facebook, Flickr, Picassa and Twitter directly from your iPhone.
Location Sharing.
Cost: Free.
Google announced recently Goggle Latitude which is not yet available on the iPhone...coming soon. Many Apps on the iPhone make location sharing possible: Whrrl, BrightKite, Moximity...
These products allow you to see where your friends are and to share where you are or want to go. You can also discover other places or events that others have visited.
I think these applications in the future, will take a big place in our life.
Companies like Google, offers these products for free.
Fake a Call.
Cost: Free.
With this App you can create a fake contact and make that “fake” friend calls you on demand. It is a great way to get yourself out of a boring meeting.
I consider this App more as a joke. I don’t really use it, except if I want to impress my friends when Steve Jobs or Bill Gate calls me.
You may want to have it to rescue you from some situations.
One More Thing: I also play with some games on my iPHone. I will try to review some of them at another time.
What applications do you use the most on your iPhone?
