I got my Sony HDR-TG1 camcorder back from the repairman. Sony finally fixed it perfectly, and free of charge, but only after giving me such a hard time.
I appreciate the gest but I think we should not have to always fight to get due service.
Importing video into final cut from a Sony HDR-TG1 (TG3) is much easier than what you would think.
I am using Final Cut Express (FCE). The process is the same with Final Cut Pro.
Final Cut:
FCE provides a Log and Transfer tool found in the File menu (Menu>File> Log and Transfer...).
A pop-up window will appear with the list of all your footage from the camcorder.
Of course your camcorder needs to be plugged into a USB port before starting.
Select one or more clips then click on “Add my Selection to Queue” or drag them down into the window below the clip list.
The transfer progression will be seen in the bar situated just above the drag zone.
On the right side of the window, clip settings can be changed, like the clip name scene or date...
It is very easy and it works well.
When you are finished importing your footage, close the Log and Transfer window in order to go back to the FCE Browser.
The imported clips will appear in the Browser window.
The clips can now be loaded into the Viewer window where where you can play it.
To edit clips, simply drag them into the Timeline window.
Now you can play and edit the video segments to create a project and transcode it.
iMovie:
I have explained how to import videos using iMovie in a precedent post titled, “Sony HDR-TG1 and Mac Compatibility”.
If you have already imported you clips and edit them with iMovie you can import a iMovie project into FCE.
First you need to export your project from iMovie.
Use the Export Final Cut XML tool (Menu>Share> Export Final Cut XML)
To import the project into Final Cut use one of the import tools. (Menu>File>FCP XML from iMovie)
Then select the desired file and clic import.
Done.
Do you use Final Cut Express or Pro to edit your videos?
I hope this post will help some of you. Share your experience by leaving a comment.
