Biggest and Brightest Full Moon.

Tonight is a lucky night because the moon is closer to us and today is also the full moon. 

The moon is less than 357,000 kilometers – or 222,000 miles – away. 

The night sky is set to be illuminated by the biggest and brightest full moon for the past 15 years (last time was in March ’93) After today, the moon won’t come this close to Earth for another 8 years (November 14, 2008).

Phoenix Found Water on Mars.

"We have water" said William Boynton of the University of Arizona.

NASA also announced that the mission is extended to September 30. The good shape of the spacecraft and the new results made possible to addfive weeks to the 90 days of the prime mission.

Phoenix Mars Lander : Final Trajectory

August 4th, 2007 The Delta II Lauched the Mars Phoenix spacecraft. Remember my different post (and here).

Tonight NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander  will reach Mars with no further adjustments to its flight path. Mission controllers decided early today not to use the last possible time for a trajectory correction maneuver, eight hours before landing.

Mission to Mercury.

Nasa’s Messenger spacecraft approach to Mercury to photograph the sunlit portion of a hemisphere never seen before.
Messenger was launch August 3,2004. After Venus in 2006 and 2007, it is now around Mercury that the spacecraft is going to orbit.

Messenger a été lancé le 3 août 2004. Après avoir été en orbite autour de Venus en 2006-2007, c’est maintenant autour de Mercury que l’engin va tourner.

Mont Blanc

The altitude of the summit of the Mont-Blanc was measure by civil engineer this week end: 4 810,9 m (15784 ft). The result shows that the summit is 2,15 m higher than two years ago. The highest mountain in the Alps and Western Europe is cover with 30 m of ice/snow. The thickness of the glacier depends of the wind which brings the past two years more snow on the summit.
The measurment have been done with Leica Geosystems using a GPS . The precision of measurements is 10 cm .

L’altitude du sommet du Mont-Blanc a été déterminée ce week-end par des Géomètres Experts de Haute-Savoie : 4810,9 m.
Ce résultat montre que le sommet de la Dame Blanche a augmenté de 2,15 m par rapport aux mesures faites il y a deux ans. Son sommet est recouvert par un glacier dont l’épaisseur varie en fonction des vents. Si les spécialistes observent une diminution des glaciers de moyenne altitude, il semble que ceux d’altitude grossissent.
Les mesures sont effectuées en partenariat avec Leica Geosystems, par mesures GPS en temps réel. La précision des mesures est de 10 cm.

Phoenix Mars Lander.

Phonenix Mars Lander pass the checkout of the radar and the UHF radio says Nasa today.
The UHF radio will be turn on again in May 2008 when Phoenix will start landing on Mars. The UHF radio will relay the communications from Phoenix to other orbiters that are already in service around Mars.
The radar will monitor the distance between Phoenix and the ground during the landing.
In august the Phoenix Flight Operations team checked some of the science instruments. Until Phoenix correct its trajectory on October 16th, some other instruments will be check regulary.

Le contrôle du radar et de la radio UHF de Phonenix Mars Lander a été un succès indique la NASA aujourd'hui.
La radio UHF sera mise en service en Mai 2008 quand Phoenix commencera sa descente sur Mars. La radio UHF transmettra les communications de Phoenix par relais avec des satellites qui sont déjà en service autour de Mars.
Le radar mesurera la distance entre Phoenix et le sol de Mars pendant la descente. En août l'équipe d'opérations de vol de Phoenix a vérifié certains des instruments. Jusqu'à la correction de trajectoire de Phoenix le 16 octobre, d’autres instruments seront contrôlés.

Total Lunar Eclipse August 28th.

On August 28th at 00:54 PDT (3:54 a.m. EDT) you’ll be able to see the eclipse of the moon at moon set in America. You’ll be able to see it at moon rise in Asia.
Around 2:52 a.m. PDT (5:52 a.m. EDT) the color of the Moon will change gray to red for 90 minutes.

28 août a 00:54 sur la cote Ouest et à 3:54 sur la cote Ouest on pourra voir une magnifique éclipse de la lune. L’éclipse sera également visible en Asie.
À environ 2 :52 sur la cote Ouest et à 5:54 sur la cote Ouest la couleur de la lune passera du gris au rouge pour environ 90 minutes.

In May I watched this video and got very enthusiastic about what was being presented. I was wondered when and how we would have a use of such a tool. I’ll tell you later what Microsoft and Nasa came out with.
